Setup tutorial
How to connect your EiraSync vault to Obsidian Self-hosted LiveSync.
Save setup link and passphrase
In the dashboard dialog, copy “Setup link” and “URI passphrase”. Save both now — EiraSync does not keep the link permanently.
“Regenerate setup link” rotates password and E2EE key. Old devices must reconnect afterward.
Install the LiveSync plugin
In Obsidian: Community plugins → install and enable Self-hosted LiveSync. Version ≥ 0.25.11.
Paste the setup URI
Command palette (⌘/Ctrl+P) → “Use the copied setup URI”. Paste the setup link first, then the URI passphrase.
The real E2EE passphrase is encrypted inside the setup link. You only type the short URI passphrase.
First device: upload
If LiveSync asks whether to send all chunks before replication: on the first device choose “Yes” (upload local notes).
Other devices: fetch
On the second device import the same setup link and choose “No” (fetch from remote). Don’t generate a second link.
Notes
401 / server admin
Messages like “You are not a server admin” are safe to ignore — vault users intentionally lack CouchDB admin rights. Sync still works.
Switch vaults or reconnect
Don’t layer a new link over an old config. Reset LiveSync settings, restart Obsidian, then import a fresh link.
One link for every device
Desktop and mobile should share the same setup link. Different links cause lockouts or decryption errors.
